Embark Georgia Network: Fundraising Reception for Kennesaw State University's CARE Center
Embark Georgia

The Embark Georgia statewide network serves post-secondary professionals and institutions to ensure connectivity, share best practices, and provide information exchange among youth, community based stakeholders, and K-12 professionals who support former foster and homeless students in their academic endeavors.

Announcement:

Many are not aware that throughout the U.S. colleges have experience a drastic influx of students who a facing homelessness issues, either due to them trying to breakaway from generational poverty and/or due to financially devastating situations such as the death of a parent. Kennesaw State University's Campus Awareness Resource and Empowerment (CARE) Center was created to help this growing population.

The CARE Center serves as the single point of contact supporting students who are homeless or are at-risk of being homeless. This initiative provides case management, food, clothing, gas money and even shelter when necessary.  This program operates purely on the generosity of sponsors through donations, both tangible and monetary.

On November 5, 2014, as apart of Homelessness Awareness Week (HAW), the CARE Center is hosting a fundraising reception to benefit students through scholarships and service, as well as bringing awareness to the plight of homelessness on the campus community. The highlight of the evening will be KSU students sharing their experiences with homelessness. The CARE Center is inviting you along with community businesses and leaders to invest in the success of this "hidden population" -- a phrase used to describe how many homeless college students choose to hide versus ask for help.

You are welcomed to share this information with colleagues, community businesses and other interested parties. If you or anyone has questions, feel free to email Marcy Stidum or call 470-KSU-6600.
