Embark Georgia Network: New Opportunities and Regional Meeting Reminder!

The Embark Georgia statewide network serves post-secondary professionals and institutions to ensure connectivity, share best practices, and provide information exchange among youth, community based stakeholders, and K-12 professionals who support former foster and homeless students in their academic endeavors.

Articles and Information: 

1. Youth Homelessness is an Invisible Issue, but It Doesn't Have to Be highlights the powerful documentary The Homestretch that tells the stories of three homeless teenagers in Chicago as they fight to defy stereotypes and build new futures. 


2. The Jack Kent Cooke Foundation College Scholarship Program is about to open. There are two upcoming opportunities to learn more about the College Scholarship Program and its application to potential applicants, educators, and/or parents. 

  • A Twitter chat will be held to answer any questions you may have about filling out the College Scholarship Program Application. These Twitter chats will be hosted on October 1 and October 13
    • The October 1st Twitter chat will take place between 2:00-3:00 p.m. ET.
    • The October 13th Twitter chat will take place between 5:00-6:00 p.m. ET.

  • If you know anyone else who might be interesting in learning more about the College Scholarship Program, please share these opportunities with them.

Northeast Georgia Regional Meeting!

September 30 at UGA from 12:30-3:30 PM (Lunch included!)

Who should participate:  DFCS case managers, ILP and EPAC staff; K-12 homeless liaisons, counselors, and social workers; USG and TCSG faculty and staff; private providers; community partners; youth and anyone else who is interested in supporting the educational dreams of youth with foster care and/or homelessness experience.

 

Are you working in the Northeast region of Georgia and have an interest in supporting students with foster care and/or homelessness experience?   Do you want to learn what your peers are doing to support these youth?  Don't miss this opportunity to network with local community partners, share resources, and create a supportive educational pipeline for these students from your region!

 

This is the first of 5 regional meetings across Georgia designed to bring key partners together in order to share ideas and build relationships to enhance the educational opportunities for youth with foster care and/or homelessness.   

Additional dates and locations include:

October 14: Kennesaw State University

October 27: Albany Technical College

November 4: Georgia Southern University

January 23: Georgia Highlands College and Northwest Georgia Technical College
