Embark Georgia

The Embark Georgia statewide network serves post-secondary professionals and institutions to ensure connectivity, share best practices, and provide information exchange among youth, community based stakeholders, and K-12 professionals who support former foster and homeless students in their academic endeavors.

  1. We are excited about our upcoming strategic planning session in a few weeks and hope to have some great information to share with you! The plan is being developed to help set the direction for the network over the next 18 months to make sure that it meets the needs of each of you.  Please let us know if there is something of particular interest to you or your institution that we should focus on during the process.
  2. Bainbridge State College has just signed on as the newest school offering a program for foster and homeless youth.  Embark would like to thank Dr. Rodney Carr for his enthusiasm and leadership in this endeavor.
  3. Embark would also like to announce that in the coming months a list will be published by the University System of Georgia ad the Technical College system of Georgia that will include a point of contact at every school in those respective systems.  This is an amazing stride for Georgia and we know it will improve college access for many more students.

Upcoming resource opportunities::

  1. Upcoming webinar from our friends at Fostering Success Michigan:  College Students from Foster Care: is there a gap between academic aspirations and college readiness?
  2. Please visit the National Association of Homeless Children and Youth.  They have a podcast available on "How to Apply for NAEHCY's LeTendre Scholarship Program (April 2014)".
  3. California College Pathways has also just released a training manual for Higher Education faculty/staff with tips and tools for working with youth from a foster care background.

As always if you have any questions, comments, or suggestions please let us know.  We want to make Embark a useful tool for everyone!
